May 18

It was 31st march, 2007. The clock was ticking 11.50. It was then I came back from my senior’s house after having a complete day’s work on the swish presentation to be displayed the next day for our college’s 8th graduation day (our super seniors’ batch). Our godmother was already in the pinnacle of anger on us for the valid reason that we did not show the preview of the presentation even once. We called her and got permission to show it the next morning for which we got a free ride in her car the next morning at 5 a.m.

But suraj (my senior) and satish (my friend also in presentation team) couldn’t come with me in madam’s car and so I went in the car with the laptop which had the presentation file which was wrongly linked. I didn’t know that and I thought of showing them separately. But even that failed and I had a nice archanai (the divine ceremony of continuous chant of words). I was all fit to receive those words with full mind because the fault was on our side. All I could do there was to promise her that the presentation will come out well and not to get tensed.

We reached the place of the function- “Kalaignar arangam”, backside of the SUN TV studios. I kept myself silent and was waiting for satish who promised me that he made the presentation cent percent ready and that madam will definitely be satisfied. It was then ragavanandam (our class representative for consecutive third year) moved in with half of the KOYAMBEDU flower market for the RANGOLI. We were happily rolling on the flowers and within a time of two and half hours, i.e. by 8a.m we had the RANGOLI done in an excellent manner. We were joined by Selvi Kavin Preeti ( please sir) who was there with her high tech camera to take a photo when she is addressing the gathering to display in her house and also the give when she wants to find a spouse.

Here came the best part of the day, TIFFIN. Aha….I had my favorite pongal with mundiri paruppu embedded in it. We had two rounds there and came back to give the presentation with some final touches. We made the seating arrangements and got our questions ready to ask the chief guest of the day, Mr.Dayanidhi Maran, honorable union minister of communication and IT.

By 11.45, we had the dynamic entrance of Mr.Maran, who entered in like Sanjay ramasamy in GHAJINI. We had our presentation displayed and we were flying over the skies because Mr.Maran asked for the presentation to be written in a cd and to be given to him. Then we had all the addresses of all the members out there in the stage. By 2.30, we had the most awaited speech of our chief guest. He started of with the quote, “it is the toughest job to deliver the speech to the audience who are waiting to go for lunch”.

Really we should be proud of having such a youngster as our minister. Very inspiring personality and he briefed the present situation and how to tune ourselves to meet the requirements of the Nation to make it a super power by 2020.

Then we had the graduation process, really a long one!! We would see our seniors with smiles extending up to their ears. One of our seniors told, “ah…ah….ellarum paathukonga….naanum engineerdhan!!” We had photo session followed by alumni meet. I quitted the last session as went to meet my grandfather. It was a day full of excitement, enjoyment, responsibility and gratitude. We returned with full mind filled with happiness, as our godmother was happy with our performance at the end of the day. She is so great to ask for apologies for scolding me in the morning. So one more red letter day in the diary of Computer science department- our department filled with guts and glory!!
